The former residents of the area around Lake Achensee had the advantage of not having to rely on building materials from far away. The quarry near Maurach provided beautiful, robust stone right on the doorstep. Not many communities were so lucky. Raw rock materials often had to be transported over long distances.

The quarry site belongs to the province of Tyrol and is administered by the Innsbruck district office. Quarrying ceased completely in 1999. Today, the quarry and its rock faces are used by the Maurach Mountain Rescue Service for training purposes. As well as the road maintenance depot, which is in the lower area of the quarry site.
